Fanye YUAN
Candidate of the 2027 Competition
Fanye Yuan is a conductor whose repertoire spans the Classical and Romantic periods, the 20th century, and contemporary music. He seeks interpretations that are timeless and sincere—faithful to the composer’s voice while remaining flexible and expressive. For Yuan, music is not a museum object, but a living language that engages, moves, and challenges both performers and audiences.
Yuan began his music study as a pianist, undertaking intensive piano studies during his Bachelor’s degree at the Oberlin Conservatory, where he worked with distinguished pianists such as Alvin Chow, Matti Raekallio, Ronald Brautigam, and Paul Badura-Skoda. These diverse artistic influences continue to shape his musical thinking. He later turned to conducting and is currently studying at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin with Markus Stenz. In addition, he has participated in the renowned Järvi Academy and the masterclass at the Peter Eötvös Contemporary Music Foundation with Thomas Adès.
His work has brought him to stages across Europe, conducting orchestras such as the Konzerthausorchester Berlin, Südwestdeutsche Philharmonie, Silesian Philharmonic, Pärnu City Orchestra, Karlovy Vary Symphony Orchestra, and Hradec Kralove Philharmonic.
