Pietro MAZZETTI

Candidate of the 2027 Competition

Pietro Mazzetti graduated with honors in percussion from the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole (2017) and in conducting from the Parma Conservatory (2022). Since 2018 he has collaborated with the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, one of Italy’s leading musical institutions, and he now serves as Music Director of the Orchestra Cupiditas in Florence.

His 2023 debut at Teatro Regio di Parma, conducting Cimarosa’s Il Matrimonio Segreto, opened the door to a string of high-profile engagements, including appearances with the Toscanini Orchestra at the Verdi Festival. He has also served as assistant to celebrated maestro F.I. Ciampa.

December 2023 brought his debut with the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino orchestra in the Zubin Mehta concert hall. 2024 was a whirlwind: Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony in Fidenza, a Rossini Gala with star mezzo Vasilisa Berzhanskaya at Moscow’s Zaryadye Hall, and stage-conducting Puccini’s Turandot alongside Zubin Mehta. A Chigiana Academy alumnus and Premio Cantelli 2024 finalist, he then debuted with Teatro Comunale di Bologna and led Turandot with the Puccini Festival Orchestra.

2025 cemented his international reputation, with a new production of Giordano’s Andrea Chénier at Moscow’s Stanislavsky Theatre, the closing concert of the Siberian Opera Festival alongside Vasilisa Berzhanskaya, Vittorio Grigolo and Ildar Abdrazakov, the debut production of Don Giovanni with Maggio Musicale Fiorentino’s academy orchestra, galas in Ankara and Istanbul, and Pagliacci in Montecatini Terme.

In 2026, Mazzetti conducts Verdi’s Un Ballo in Maschera in the Zubin Mehta concert hall and Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi.
