Anton TORBEEV, 32

Anton Torbeev is currently Principal Conductor of Mariinsky Theater, Primorsky Stage (Vladivostok, Russia). He completed his Masters Degree for Symphonic and Operatic Conducting at the Rimsky-Korsakov State Conservatoire, St Petersburg, Russia.

Torbeev has studied extensively with top conductors including Lorin Maazel, Bernard Haitink, Fabio Luisi, Edward Serov, Peter Gribanov and Wolfgang Doerner. He has been awarded numerous grants including the Solti Foundation Award, the Gartow Foundation Grant, Cultural Fellowship in the field of Performing Arts from St Petersburg government, The Russian Cultural Foundation “Young Talent” Award.

He made his opera début conducting Iolanta by Tchaikovsky at St Petersburg Opera House. In the 2012/2013 season he was Music Director of Karaganda State Musical Theater where he conducted a large amount of operas and operettas, such as La Traviata, Le Barbier de Seville, Die Fledermaus and Der Zigeunerbaron.

This season he has opened performances with ballets Giselle and Swan Lake, as well as symphonic concerts with Mariinsky Orchestra during The First Far-East Festival (Artistic Director – Valery Gergiev).

Torbeev has conducted numerous outstanding orchestras, including St Petersburg Conservatory Orchestra, The Orchestra of St Petersburg Opera House, Karaganda Symphony Orchestra, Romanian Radio Symphony, Lucerne Strings Orchestra, Volgograd Symphony Orchestra, Salzburg Chamber Soloists, Sombathei Symphony Orchestra, Pacific Music Festival Orchestra, Ruse Symphony Orchestra and Astana Symphony Orchestra.

Currently at Mariinsky Theater Primorsky Stage, he conducts an extraordinarily large number of repertoire, such as Eugene Onegin, Carmen, The Nutcracker, Tosca, La Traviata, Il Corsaro and many others.
