Gurgen PETROSYAN, 25
Gurgen Petrosyan is a young Russian conductor of 25 years old. Growing up in Nalchik, Petrosyan showed great musical talent from his early years and entered a music school at the age of six. He continued his musical education in North-Caucasian College of Culture and Arts and got qualifications of supervisor of choir and ensemble singer.
After graduating from the College, Petrosyan moved to Saratov and entered the LV Sobinov Saratov State Conservatoire where he got qualifications as a choir conductor and teacher. During his studies at the conservatory, he won several awards as a choral conductor, including First Prize at Choral Conductors Competition dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Saratov State Conservatoire (2012); First Prize and Diploma for the conductor’s individuality and bright temperament at V Interregional Conductor’s Competition “Coral province” (2014); and First Prize at VI Krasnoyarsk International Choral Conductors Competition (2015).
The next stage of Petrosyan’s creative activity is marked by the receipt of the symphonic conductor’s qualification from the postgraduate course at Saratov State Conservatoire. He took part in a several all-Russian and international conducting competitions, including the 4th I Musin International Conducting Competition (Kostroma, Russia) and the 12th Aram Khachaturian International Conducting Competition (Erevan, Armenia). He was also a prizewinner at the 5th International Symphony Conducting Competition by N Tlendiev (Astana, Kazakhstan).
Over the past few years, Petrosyan participated in several masterclasses by Denis Fisher (Professor of music in conducting, Associate Director of Wind Studies at the University of North Texas), Yuri Simonov (Music Director and Chief Conductor of Moscow Philharmonic) and Teodor Currentzis (Music Director and Chief Conductor of Perm Opera and Ballet Theater). Petrosyan is currently the conductor of the Engels Chamber Orchestra.
